Joe Zavatsky

Joe was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.  He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in History Cum Laude from Northern Michigan University in 2009 with a minor in Political Science.  After getting married to his wife, Joe attended and graduated law school from the University of St. Thomas.  Hearing about opportunity, Joe was admitted to the Montana State Bar in 2013, and joined the Office of State Public Defender in Miles City; he was then promoted to Regional Deputy Public Defender in 2014. In 2021, Joe and his family moved to Billings where he was a Managing Attorney in the Office of State Public Defender until 2024 when he and Sarah formed Alpine Law.

Joe is admitted to practice before all Montana State Courts, Montana Federal District Court, and the District of Colombia.  His practice includes Criminal Defense and Family Law.

Joe resides in Billings with his wife, Nicole and two children.  Joe enjoys traveling, reading, camping, skiing, and coaching and refereeing his kids in wrestling and soccer in his down time.

Sarah Kottke

Sarah grew up in the Billings area for the majority of her life before attending Montana State University where she obtained her bachelor of science in Agricultural Education-Relations and Agricultural Business with a minor in Economics. She then attended University of Montana to get her law degree and certificate in Environmental Law. While in law school Sarah was the President of the Women’s Law Caucus her second year and the President of the Student Bar Association during her third year. After marrying her husband, she moved back home to Billings and was admitted to the Bar in 2019 after joining the Office of State Public Defenders in 2018 and worked as a line attorney until 2021 when she was promoted to Managing Attorney. Sarah helped manage the Billings OPD office until 2024 when her and Joe formed Alpine Law.

Sarah is admitted to practice before all Montana State Courts. Her practice includes criminal defense and family law. Sarah resides in Billings with her husband, Matthew, and their three children. In her spare time Sarah enjoys camping, rafting or boating, hiking, reading, and participating in her kids school and sports.
